Outdoor Kitchen
Rod and Lorrain came to us with an idea that they wanted to extend their home outdoors. They loved the Florida climate so wanted to spend more time outdoors where they could entertain family and friends.
amaZulu Materials:
- Tre-Gai Bamboo (roof frame)
- Laguna Grass - discontinued we suggest Tahiti Thatch (thatch roof)
- Eucalyptus Posts (support posts)
- Rolled Bamboo Fence (bar front)
- Bamboo Slats (bar top edge trim)
- Bamboo Skin Board (bar counter top covered in resin)
- Wide Weave Bamboo Board (cupboard inserts)
Challenge:
Our customer had a lot they wanted to include in a relatively small area under their lani. Lorraine insisted the counter seat 8 people, so she could have her entire family seated at a family gathering. Rod really wanted a space for the barbeque, fridge, tv, ice maker and sink!
Strategy:
Our construction team came up with a great idea that never compromised on the overall asthetics of a tropical outdoor kitchen. They designed a roof that butted into the back wall of the house, so that the entire roof space was not needed. The counter was arranged so all 8 people could be seated and all Rod's electrical equiment was catered for inside. Our team even made him an enclosed TV cabinet protected against the elements. A specal island was then built for the barbeque next to the thatch kitchen, with matching bamboo panelled cabinets.
Results:
Mission accomplished! Our customer was delighted. All the products we used catered to the outdoors and we even added a fire retardant to the thatch just in case! The bamboo bar front is durable to withstand rain, spilled drinks, and many shoe dings. The bar counter was protected with a layer of resin and lastly the thatch would keep the majority of rain out as well as make the outdoor kitchen an inviting tropical shade retreat.
