FOR CONCRETE INSTALLATION
- Carefully remove Palm Tree from container and place it upright where it will be installed. After positioning is complete, drill down through existing holes of the base using a ½ inch masonry bit into the concrete @ 4 inches. Gently tap the enclosed concrete bolts through the base into the concrete and tighten nut, being careful not to over tighten bolt; too much torque can break the bolt. If pouring new pad, refer to these specs:
- For stock trees 8, 10, 12 & 14 ft tall. It is recommended to dig a hole 30” x 30” x 12” deep. Drive six 2 ft rebar stakes into the hole, leaving 4” – 6” rebar exposed in the hose, so that when the concrete is poured and cured, the new concrete pad is “anchored” to the ground. This pad will accommodate up to three palm trees.
- Important to Remember! The palm trees are very top heavy and will catch a lot of wind. Be safe, no shortcuts; respect Mother Nature! (check local codes before digging!)
FOR WOOD DECK INSTALLATION
- Carefully remove Palm Tree from container and place it upright where it will be installed making sure you have tree positioned over deck joist so that 2 to 4 lag screws will catch the joist.
- After positioning is complete, using the enclosed lag screws and washers place one lag and washer in each corner and tighten.
Caution: DO NOT over tighten; too much torque can cause the lag screws to sink down into your decking and “spin”, causing the tree not to be secure.
Installing the tropical amaPalm Leaves
(IMPORTANT: please read completely before proceeding)
- Each palm tree comes with 9 large fronds and 3 small fronds. 8ft & 10ft trees come with small sets of fronds, and 12ft, 14ft & taller trees come with large sets of fronds.
Palm Frond Installation:
- Ensure the steel support of the fronds is facing out, or away from the trunk. Insert the 9 large fronds into every other slot in the cap at the top of the trunk. Each frond will easily slide through a top slot and continue on down through a bottom slot. This secures the fronds from twisting and blowing out.
- Bend every other frond down into position until they are slightly lower than level with the top of the cap, by grabbing the frond about a foot from the cap and gently but firmly pull (bend) the fronds down.
- Bend the remaining fronds down to about a 45 degree angle. Slightly vary the angles of the fronds to achieve a very full and natural look without uniformity.
- Insert the remaining 3 smaller fronds in a random triangle pattern using any of the 3 empty slots in the cap. Again, ensure the steel support of the fronds face away from the tree. Smaller fronds represent new growth fronds for a more realistic look.
- Attach the coconuts to the wire loop located near the top of the frond caps.
Recommendations for protection from extreme weather conditions:
- Wind: Fill the cavity in the frond cap with an expanding foam, such as “Great Stuff”, available at any hardware store.
- Winter: Remove and store fronds and coconuts with shelter; a plastic bag over the top of the trunk to prevent water from freezing.
- Please email photos after your palm trees are installed. This activates your warranty and allows us to see if slight corrections can be made so you will enjoy the palms more.
