DIY Install Your Own Eucalyptus Wood Trellis

Quick and Easy DIY Project – Eucalyptus Wood Trellis

The sun can be relentless regardless of where you live.  All of those afternoons outdoors are going to require some shade — lucky for you; it’s extremely easy to install your very own eucalyptus wood trellis!

Why Eucalyptus wood?

That’s an easy one. Eucalyptus is a durable hardwood that has the strength to support many kinds of construction projects. In addition to being durable, it’s also extremely sustainable. Compared to other, more pricey hardwoods, eucalyptus plantations can produce up to 30 times a greater volume per year.

It also grows naturally straight, so it’s perfect for this kind of structure! We can’t think of a better hardwood to use for your beautiful, new eucalyptus wood trellis.

Eucalyptus Wood Trellis is a perfect DIY project

There’s one more reason a eucalyptus trellis is such a great idea for this summer: You can do it yourself! That’s right.

Eucalyptus trellises are completely DIY — Between amaZulu and your local Home Depot or Lowes, we have everything you need:

Supplies necessary to building a eucalyptus wood trellis:

  • Eucalyptus Wood
  • Wood stain (if desired)
  • Shovel
  • Concrete
  • Measuring Tape
  • 2” Deck Screws
  • Saw (if mitering is needed)

Follow These Steps:

  1. Stain your poles with wood stain. You can choose whichever color or shade you like! The one pictured here is called “Jacobean” from Home Depot.
  2. Take an old towel and wipe down the excess stain.
  3. Dig holes for your support posts. These must be at least 2 feet deep. Then fill them with concrete.
  4. Measure and install your support posts, securing them into the ground with concrete.
  5. Place your horizontal cross beams in position to make sure that the lengths are correct. Secure your vertical beams onto posts.
  6. Horizontal beams do not need to be one, continuous post; they can be mitered!
  7. If mitering your beams, cut an 8” half round out of each horizontal beam that requires mitering.
  8. Secure the horizontal beams to the vertical beams.
  9. The top batons sit on top of the horizontal beams and can be secured using 2” deck screws
  10. Make sure that the baton extending as the edge lays about 2 feet past the last horizontal beam to give it a nice overhang! You don’t want it to be too short!
