Lowry Park Zoo
Components
- Pressure-treated Eucalyptus poles
- Thatch Reed Umbrella
Challenge
Our team needed to revive the African animal enclosure while also using materials that met three criteria:
- Create a shelter for the animals, but the materials could not be harmful to them.
- Provide aesthetically pleasing shade for the guests watching the animals.
- Protect the integrity of the exhibit's natural look.
Strategy
amaZulu used our exclusive pressure treated, arsenic-free eucalyptus poles, imported from Africa, and a customized version of the African Thatch Reed Umbrella.
Results
The Lowry Zoo African exhibit now has shade for both guests and animals. We used a standard 16' thatch reed umbrella (non-toxic) and modified the pole and struts for the height of the giraffes. By placing the eucalyptus poles 4" apart, we created a natural shade structure for the guests and animals.
"Working with Amazulu has been a pleasure. They have been able to provide unique quality materials at fair prices and always deliver on time. Without their help, our Safari Africa and Sky Ride projects would be lacking the natural and rustic feel of real Africa."
